ACR Data Explained

Chief Innovative Officer, Seth Kelly, explains Automatic Content Recognition (ACR). There are two leading methods for using ACR – fingerprinting and watermarking.

ACR is a concept where you take TV content or OTT content, and you basically create a fingerprint for it, and once you have that fingerprint for that content, there’s a bunch of different things that you can do. You can compare different distributions of the same content and measure the time it takes from distribution point A to distribution point B. You can compare two commercials. You can compare multiple audio snippets. One example of ACR would be Shazam. They do a fingerprint of a radio signal. It’s the same concept with TV, and once you introduce ACR, somebody can bring their phone up, put an app up, and listen to the audio on the TV and know exactly what’s on and give you content or third-party content on that data or that particular show or commercial or whatever the case may be.
