As of September 1st, 2010 Chop Cut Rebuild’s host Dan Woods has placed his personal vehicle, the 1975 Bricklin SV1 restored in Season 4, for sale on Ebay Motors! This a one of a kind automobile, customized and upgraded to be one serious sports car that turns heads where ever it goes. Its flamed Maple Leaf hood and custom interior reflect its heritage as Canada’s last production automobile and North America’s only gull-wing production car.
Celebrities such as Leonard Cohen, Monty Hall, and even former Canadian Prime Minister, Kim Campbell have sat in this car. Its designer, Herb Grasse and the cars originator Malcolm Bricklin, have both raved about its redesign and custom look. This Bricklin has appeared twice at the SEMA show in Las Vegas to outstanding reviews.
Completely rebuilt from the ground up, this rare SV1 is one of just 2,900 Bricklin’s produced from 1974 to 1976. Meticulously customized by the renowned team at Syndicate Automotive in San Diego, California, its transformation was extensively documented and broadcast across North America on the SPEED Channel. Its original 351 Windsor engine was completely rebuilt with a top of the line “stroker” kit, to increase its cubic inch capacity to nearly 400ci. Its new power is complimented by an Art Carr built C4 Transmission and Currie 9 inch Differential. Four wheel disc brakes provide more than enough stopping power. Edelbrock aluminum heads and a Demon 4bbl carburetor pour a unique roar from the customized headers. Interior work includes, a custom made dash and console combination which houses a top of the line Sony Xplod sound system and DVD screen. Converted from hydraulic to pneumatic, its signature gull-wing doors open at the touch of a remote switch, while the new Air Ride suspension can drop the car on its rockers for added effect.
Re-broadcasts of the Season 4 series, have recently begun a new airing cycle on the Discovery UK channel “Turbo”, seen across Europe.

Speed Channel show host caught in CA fraud sting SANTA ANA, Calif. – Prosecutors in California have charged 53 mechanics with defrauding auto shop customers, including the host of the Speed Channel reality show “Chop Cut Rebuild.” The Associated Press (AP)
Update
On June 3rd, the above story and headline was presented by numerous media outlets; including a significant number of Radio and Television stations. The story culminated for release following a press conference held by Orange County District Attorney, Tony Rackauckas.
Richard Todd Evans was named in Rackauckas’ list of 53 people charged. Evans has appeared on numerous automotive television shows and was wrongly identified by a number of news outlets, including The AP – as the host of the SPEED Channel series Chop Cut Rebuild.
Was Productions Inc. states unequivocally: Mr. Evans has never hosted Chop Cut Rebuild, and has not been an active cast member since 2004. Further, Evans has never had any direct association with SPEED. Evans’ association with the series entails a non-paid appearance in a single season, as one of 5 featured custom car builders, during the 2nd year of the popular show. Last year, Mr. Evans made a very brief appearance during a 100th episode anniversary recap.
Chop Cut Rebuild is now in production for its 7th successful season on SPEED, with international broadcasts across Europe on Discovery Turbo.
The recognized host of Chop Cut Rebuild is also the series creator, and its executive producer, Dan Woods. Mr. Woods is an original cast member of the Emmy Award winning Degrassi franchise. Woods has been at the helm of the CCR series and its production company, since its inception. Mr. Woods made the following comments regarding Mr. Evans:
“I was disheartened to learn a shop owner who had participated in our series has been named in this investigation. I’m hopeful Rich will be afforded due process without prejudice. Rich is an extremely talented builder. I wish him the best.”
As for the Orange County DA’s efforts to combat automotive insurance fraud, Mr. Woods stated:
This alleged activity casts the automotive repair and customization industry throughout Orange County, CA – in an unfortunate light. That said: I applaud the OCDA for making an effort to keep shops honest and fair in their dealings with customers and their insurers.

This is one of two cars we are working on this season. At least, this is what the car used to look like when it came from the factory. It was found in a barn in Tennesse in less than perfect shape. Time has clearly taken its toll. But, an expert Chop Cut Rebuild team has no intention of letting decay win this battle.
